Jeff Foiles
Born in the beautiful bluffs and hills of Calhoun County Illinois nestled between the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers on April 28, 1957. Son of Merlin Burdette Foiles, waterfowler of 70 years, and grandson of Merlin Foiles, waterfowler of over 80 years, Jeff started hunting at an early age of 6 years old, on the mighty Missippi River. Jeff’s first shot was out of a J.C. Higgins 12 gauge pump when he killed 2 Canvasback drakes. That started his 41 year love for waterfowling.
Jeff’s career as a Union Ironworker began in 1977. He started guiding hunters at an early age, traveling across the United States and Canada doing what he loved and keeping his family fed. Jeff started the calling circuit in early 1990, winning many championships along the way. Some of Jeff’s most coveted titles include 2003 World All around Duck and Goose Champion by winning a combination of Seckelbelly Snow Goose, Canada Goose and Duck and his most recent title is the 2004 WCA World Championship Goose.
In 1991, Jeff began making his first call by putting together several pieces and turning out barrels. This was the beginning of the championship line of “Strait Meat” Duck and Goose Calls. In 1993, after suffering a death threatening heat stroke at work, Jeff decided to get more serious about the waterfowl industry. By 1999, after working several years of waterfowl seminars and shows across the country and meeting some of the best waterfowlers from every flyaway, Jeff decided to make the “Strait Meat Honker” and “Strait Meat Mallard” calls. With the realistic tones of both patented calls, they were an instant success in the field and on the stage.
Now with a complete line of acrylic, wood, polycarbonate calls, videos, and waterfowl accessories, Foiles Migrators, Inc. is world proclaimed.
In 2003, the Foiles Migrators line of “Strait Meat” calls won the crown, no other call maker has obtained, by winning 2 World Goose calling Championships and 2 World Duck calling Championships in 1 year. 2004, the success continues with winning the 2004 WCA World Championship Goose.
Foiles Migrators now stands at the top in the waterfowl world. In the spring of 2004, Foiles Migrators will be breaking ground on its new building site in order to better accommodate the successful growth of the company.
Today, Jeff has also added the D&J “Strait Meat” Duck Club, offering 110 acres of prime flooded corn, resting against the Del Air Refuge and the mighty Mississippi River. Hunters can enjoy this waterfowl haven. After just 2 years, D&J was at the top of kills in Illinois, on migrating ducks.
Jeff has 4 children, Lisa who is Foiles Dealer Rep. and works in accounting, Crystal, Jenna and Cole. Cole 12 has already started following in his dads footsteps by winning several Jr. Duck and Goose Championships and is leaving his mark on the waterfowling world.
